The following gives a flavour of the work undertaken by Debbie Wilkie:
 
Consultation meetings: 
Fisheries - external consultant to George Street Research Ltd on a survey of attitudes of participants in the Scottish fishing industry, commissioned by the Scottish Executive
 
Can we work together towards common purpose? - chaired event featuring inspirational speaker Julia Middleton, founder of Common Purpose
 
Making your voice heard in the Scottish Parliament - authored user-friendly guide for people in faith and religious communities on how the Scottish Parliament works and how to have their beliefs understood.
 
Delivered training on the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003 and the Emplolyment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003 on behalf of the Scottish Inter Faith Council in conjunction with Stonewall Scotland.
 
Acted as independent chair for a number of the public meetings conducted for the Scottish Executive.  This included question time sessions involving government Ministers, senior civil servants and external experts.
 
Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Bill - commissioned by the Scottish Executive to conduct four consultation meetings. This complex and sensitive work was related to the implementation of the findings of the Soham inquiry.
 
Adoption and Children (Scotland) Bill - commissioned by the Scottish Executive to conduct four consultation meetings.  Amongst other elements, this Bill contained controversial proposals to allow joint adoption by same sex couples and by unmarried couples. 
 
Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 - commissioned by the Scottish Executive to conduct 12 consultation meetings.  This legislation introduced new ways for parents to get involved in their children's school.
 
Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005 - commissioned to conduct four consultation meetings where Scottish Ministers could present the rationale for introducing a smoking ban in enclosed public places and provide an opportunity for participants to express views.  The work also involved holding 12 participatory consultation meetings  in local communities.  Also conducted a focus group to test the survey questionnaire which was sent out to 30,000 recipients.
 
The Participation Challenge -  designed and delivered workshop on involvement of stakeholders using particpatory techniques.  The workshop is targeted at staff and volunteers in the voluntary and public sector who need or want to engage more actively with their stakeholders.
 
Politics and Policy - designed and delivered course on how government policy originates and is developed.  What are the policy development processes and how can organisations and individuals make input.
 
As a Policy Manager in the Scottish Office arranged two major conferences, in Aberdeen and Glasgow for the European Commission to consult fishing industry representatives on a review of the Common Fisheries Policy. 
 
Have spoken at a wide range of public events on the subject of participation and citizenship.
